I started taking a look around&#8230;nothing seemed suspicious.<br \/>\nI tried uninstalling and re-installing mysql-server-5.0 a few times and I always got this kind of output from apt-get:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Stopping MySQL database server: mysqld.<br \/>\nStarting MySQL database server: mysqld . . . . . . . . . . . . . . failed!<br \/>\ninvoke-rc.d: initscript mysql, action &#8220;start&#8221; failed.<br \/>\ndpkg: error processing mysql-server-5.0 (&#8211;configure):<br \/>\n subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1<br \/>\nErrors were encountered while processing:<br \/>\n mysql-server-5.0<br \/>\nReading package lists&#8230; Done<br \/>\nBuilding dependency tree<br \/>\nReading state information&#8230; Done<br \/>\nReading extended state information<br \/>\nInitializing package states&#8230; Done<br \/>\nReading task descriptions&#8230; Done\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nReconfiguring the package just prompted me to input a new root password, still it could not start.
